Even the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">S<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">even\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">D<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">warfs\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">factor into this discussion. The band does this in clever tongue-and-cheek style. \u201cSomedays won\u2019t end ever\/And somedays pass on by\/I\u2019ll be working here forever\/At least until I die.&#8221; The daily routine for this job segment is a grind<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, yet it\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">provides barely enough money for rent and car payments. \u201cI get a check on\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Friday,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0but it\u2019s already spent.\u201d That\u2019s why \u201cI\u2019m taking what they\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">giving<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2018cause<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0I\u2019m working for a\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">livin<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2019.\u201d Lewis wrote the song based on his experience as a truck driver before becoming a musician. He held some of the other jobs mentioned, namely busboy and bartender. These stints motivated him to create this \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.songfacts.com\/facts\/huey-lewis-the-news\/workin-for-a-livin\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">tribute<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0to the working man\u201d and woman. In this case, an encounter with an exhausted restroom attendant at Chasen\u2019s restaurant in Los Angeles served as the springboard for Donna Summer to co-write this song. The person portrayed in this song has \u201cso many things to do\/Oh, I got work to do\/I got work baby\/I got a job baby\/I got work to do.\u201d Perhaps his lady love feels ignored, as though his interest in her has waned. But he insists that\u2019s not true. He would \u201clove to spend more time.\u201d But he can\u2019t because \u201cI\u00a0gotta\u00a0make it for you and\u00a0gotta\u00a0make it for me.\u201d Don\u2019t fret, that\u2019s the way it\u00a0has to\u00a0be for now. \u201cSo\u00a0keep your love light\u00a0burnin\u2019\u201d and \u201cget used to me\/Coming home a little late.\u201d The\u00a0Isley\u00a0Brothers tell it like it is with a cool blend of funk, rock and soul and heavy percussion. When mulling over \u201ccareer opportunities,\u201d aspire to \u201cthe ones that never knock.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201c<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">9 to 5<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Dolly Parton, 1985<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">work playlist\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">must, this is a Dolly Parton standard. Something or everything gets to you. Who but a country singing star by the stage name of Johnny Paycheck could wail those thoughts into a number one hit for two consecutive weeks? When you <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">pay close attention\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to the words, you may get the impression the man featured in this song is only contemplating this drastic action. Or is he\u00a0actually calling\u00a0it quits? \u201cI\u2019d give the shirt right\u00a0offa\u2019 my back\/If I had the guts to say\/Take this job and shove it\/I\u00a0ain\u2019t\u00a0working here no more.\u201d It\u2019s a powerful phrase, forceful, seething with resentment and memorable. It must be all that and more because it spawned a movie of the same name in 1981. Both the writer of this song and Johnny Paycheck had minor roles in that film.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201c<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">All Work and No Play<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Van Morrison, 2002<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">More than 30 years after scoring a\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">mega<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0hit with \u201cMoondance,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sir George Ivan Morrison, known to most\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">of us\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">as\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Van Morrison<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0laments about \u201cAll Work and No Play.\u201d Why?
